National Security Technologies Selects Avaya Collaboration Solutions
Jan 14 14
Avaya Government Solutions announced that National Security Technologies (NSTec) has selected a new Avaya unified communication and video solution to modernize the infrastructure used by its clients and significantly reduce operating costs. NSTec manages operations at the Nevada National Security Site for the U.S. Department of Energy. The legacy voice and video infrastructure NSTec oversees had become expensive to repair and maintain. NSTec decided to invest in an Avaya platform to enhance collaboration and deliver the reliability needed to support its mission. An extensive business case developed by Avaya Government Solutions estimates that NSTec can realize more than $2 million a year in recurring savings on operating costs with the new system, which will serve approximately 4,500 personnel. NSTec and its clients will improve productivity by using Avaya Scopia video conferencing to support team meetings -- eliminating the time and expense of travel from remote sites. Avaya Scopia also will significantly increase the capacity to deliver video-based training.
U.S. Navy to Use Avaya Ruggedized Unified Communication Application Servers
Oct 23 13
Avaya Government Solutions announced that 'ruggedized' versions of its commercially available Avaya unified communication (UC) application servers will be used by the U.S. Navy. Avaya Aura(R) Communication Manager servers, Avaya Meeting Exchange conference servers and Avaya Administration Terminals have been selected for use aboard U.S. Navy LPD-17 San Antonio-class ships, including the LPD-26 and LPD-27. Raytheon Company is the systems integrator for the LPD project. The Avaya Aura(R) Communication Manager servers, Avaya Meeting Exchange conference servers and Avaya Administration Terminals will also be used aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford, the first in a new CVN-78 class of Navy super-carriers. The ruggedized Avaya application servers are based on commercially available technology customized with a standard rack-mountable design that can withstand harsh shipboard conditions. Avaya teamed with Core Systems to ensure the servers are shipboard-ready. The cases are manufactured by Core Systems from strain-hardened, structural aircraft aluminum for maximum strength and minimum weight, with special fans, strain-relief cables and hold-down mechanisms to protect sensitive computer components. The new chassis standardizes the server size, shape, power and other factors, an important feature that reduces costs and makes it easier for engineers to integrate commercially available servers onboard any U.S. Navy ship.

Avaya Government Solutions Inc. and its channel partner Standard Communications announced they have been chosen to provide a new unified communications (UC) infrastructure to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, D.C. The Center will replace its aging communications network with a new Avaya Aura(R) platform, delivering advanced UC capabilities to its staff and enhancing approximately 7,000 communications end points, including Internet protocol (IP) phones and other mobile devices. In addition, the Avaya Flare(R) Communicator for iPad tablet devices will enable physicians and administrators to stay in touch easily and to communicate using their iPad, whether they are in the office, at a patient's bedside or visiting a remote clinic. The Avaya Flare application provides quick and convenient access to a variety of real-time, integrated communications and collaboration tools, including voice calls, multi-party conferencing, email, presence and enterprise instant messaging. Avaya Connect Channel Partner Standard Communications will install the Avaya solution and provide the Center with ongoing support. Installation is expected to be completed by year-end.
