Balfour Beatty Construction announced the appointments of three new directors in their Northern California division. Bill Campbell, director of preconstruction technologies & building information modeling (BIM), will lead the Northern California division’s BIM Group. He has more than 10 years of experience in the industry, with a background in industrial engineering and BIM management. Prior to joining Balfour Beatty Construction, Bill served as corporate BIM manager for ACCO Engineered Systems where he was involved in the construction of notable projects such as Apple Campus 2, Facebook West, and Gilead Sciences. Fred Parker, director of operations (Special Projects Group) will lead the Northern California division’s Special Projects Group’s efforts in ensuring operational excellence. He has more than 30 years of experience in the industry, with a background in operations, preconstruction, estimating, scheduling, marketing, and business development. Prior to joining Balfour Beatty Construction, Fred served as vice president and division manager of the Federal Group for Swinerton Builders. Fred is actively involved in industry organizations including the Associated General Contractors (AGC) and the Society of American Military Engineers. James (Jamie) Qualk, director of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems (MEPS), will lead the Northern California division’s MEPS efforts. Jamie has more than 15 years of experience in the industry. His expertise includes building design and construction, green building, sustainability, renewable energy, building operations, net-zero, commissioning, market trends, and project feasibility. Prior to joining Balfour Beatty Construction, Jamie served as commissioning authority (CxA) for notable projects such as the Transbay Transportation Terminal and the SFMOMA renovation. The San Diego Community College District Selects Balfour Beatty Construction to Design and Build New Cafeteria/Bookstore/Stockroom

The San Diego Community College District has selected Balfour Beatty Construction to design and build a new Cafeteria/Bookstore/Stockroom at San Diego Mesa College located 7250 Mesa College Drive in San Diego, Calif. The $36.4 million project includes the design and construction of a 65,000 square-foot building that will house a food service facility, bookstore, and stockroom that will serve the entire Mesa College Campus. With design by SGPA/Miller Hull, the Cafeteria/Bookstore/Stockroom will be equipped with multiple food stations focused on exhibition cooking. The Culinary Arts Program will include classrooms, a cooking laboratory, a demonstration kitchen, a rooftop vegetable garden, and M-Fusion, a student operated restaurant. An open and flexible plan is being developed for the bookstore to accommodate current and future technologies. The reprographics area is being designed to accommodate campus mail and reprographics services for campus staff. The facility will serve as an activity hub that provides amenities for the daily life of students and faculty. The project will incorporate a significant number of sustainable features and is expected to obtain LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2014 with an estimated completion in July 2015.
