University Of New Mexico Board of Regents has selected a Kent State University provost as the school's 21st new president. The regents voted to hire Robert G. Frank at a special board meeting. The selection comes months after a long search and concerns over rising salaries for New Mexico college presidents. The 59-year-old Frank beat out four other candidates seeking to replace outgoing UNM president David Schmidly, who took over in 2007. Frank is currently provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Kent State University.
