Veolia Environmental Services North America Corp. Key Developments

Veolia Environmental Services North America Corp. Opens New Location in Charlestown, Mass

Veolia Environmental Services North America Corp. (Veolia) is expanding its operations and opening a new location in Charlestown, Mass., to compliment company operations in Marlborough. The company provides recycling, reclamation, transportation and disposal of hazardous materials, emergency response and on-site service support to the metro Boston area. The Charlestown operation will provide field, on-site services, technical and sales support. Its proximity to Boston brings Veolia physically closer to its customer base while simultaneously enabling faster response time for service deliverables and emergency response. The new facility is approximately 15,000 square feet in the heart of the biotech, pharma, higher education and hospital geography. The new branch location will be managed by Operations Manager Derek Nelhuebel with a staff of approximately 30 environmental compliance specialists. Derek's focused efforts in operations, sales and service quality will showcase Veolia as a premier environmental services organization.

Veolia Environmental Services Opens Electronics Recycling Facility in West Bridgewater

A new Veolia electronics recycling facility that serves businesses and consumers in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic states has opened in West Bridgewater, Mass., and features the latest recycling of fluorescent lamps, ballast, batteries, computer electronics and mercury-bearing waste. Drum of mixed batteries with various RecyclePak pails in the background ready for recycling. The ability to process and reclaim material instead of sending it to a landfill is a primary goal of the facility. Veolia installed new processing equipment that allows for more than 99% of a fluorescent lamp, by weight, to be recycled. The company not only separates a fluorescent lamp into its core components of glass, aluminum and mercury-bearing phosphor power, but also reclaims the mercury and works with partners to recover rare-earth elements from the phosphor powder. Veolia currently processes approximately 15.5 million pounds of lighting and electronic waste annually and over 155 lbs. of elemental mercury is reclaimed from recycling fluorescent lamps. New recycling equipment will provide for an increased capacity for fluorescent lamps by 150%. The new 55,000 square foot West Bridgewater facility incorporates expanded employee locker rooms and decontamination area, a permitted Class C area for mercury recovery activities and a permitted TSCA/ballast processing area. The facility will serve industrial, commercial and government organizations across West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Washington, DC, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and the New England States.
