Follett Higher Education Group, Inc. Announces Executive Changes

Follett Corporation announced that after nearly 12 years as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Follett Higher Education Group, Tom Christopher will retire, effective August 30, 2013. The company has named Don Germano, former Senior Vice President of Operations for Dick's Sporting Goods, to succeed Christopher. Christopher joined Follett in 2002 after serving in executive leadership roles at Restoration Hardware, Barnes & Noble, Bookstop and Pier 1 Imports. Over the past decade, he has led an expansion of the company's on-campus retail store business, adding nearly 300 new stores. Prior to Dick's Sporting Goods, Germano served as Senior Vice President and General Manager for Kmart Holding Corporation, a subsidiary of Sears Holdings Corporation, between 2005 and 2010. He was responsible for the financial performance, operations and management of Kmart's 1,350 stores. Germano previously served in several senior-level operating roles for Kmart, and earlier held management and logistics positions with Kozmo.com, Nabisco, North American Van Lines and United Parcel Service.

Wake Forest University Selects Follett Higher Education Group to Manage University Stores

Follett Higher Education Group announced it will partner with Wake Forest University to operate its University Stores, including the University Bookstore, the Deacon Shop and the Hanes Mall Deacon Shop location. Follett will begin management of all retail operations on June 28, 2013. Follett will bring to Wake Forest the large inventory of course materials available through a network of more than 8,000 publishers and providers, offering Wake Forest students the great selection of affordable course material options. Deacon fans and alumni will see a refreshed assortment of clothing, gifts and accessories. In addition to management of the physical bookstore and Deacon Shop locations, Follett will also operate the university's online stores. Students will also have access to Follett's Rent-A-Text program, which saves, on average, 50% or more off the price of a new textbook. In addition, Wake Forest students gain access to an extensive selection of digital content, including its CafeScribe platform, Inkling's interactive digital textbooks, and more. The new partnership with Wake Forest strengthens Follett's already strong network in North Carolina.

The Southeast Missouri State University Board Retains Follett Higher Education Group for the Operation of the University Bookstore

The Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents retained the University's long-standing tradition of textbook rental while positioning the University for the future. The Board also awarded a contract for the operation of the University bookstore to Follett Higher Education Group for the period beginning July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2014, with four optional one-year renewal periods. The Board of Regents approved Follett's proposal to operate the bookstore with the University maintaining operation of the textbook rental program. The university would receive annual commissions based on a percentage of bookstore sales, in addition to contributions for bad debt and scholarships. Follett would also provide $490,000 in one time for a renovation of the bookstore, including installation of a new point-of-sale system.
