Baker & Taylor Integrates Digital Media Library with Blackboard Inc.'s Blackboard Learn Platform

Baker & Taylor announced that it has integrated its Axis 360 digital media library platform with Blackboard Learn, Blackboard Inc.'s Learning Management System, giving K-12 students and instructors quick access to digital library materials. The integration gives students and educators an easy way to discover and borrow digital library ebooks and audiobooks from Axis 360 from within Blackboard Learn. Axis 360 gives students the ability to easily borrow and read ebooks in electronic formats that are directly downloaded to computers and mobile devices. Axis 360 works with PCs and Macintosh computers as well as mobile Apple iOS and Android devices, including smart phones and tablets. eBooks on Axis 360 are also available for use with the Blio ereader, the multi--function reading application that includes embedded tools such as note taking and highlighting, online reference source linking, font controls and read-aloud functionality. Blio also offers accessibility features, making it the best available ebook reading experience for students with reading disabilities or sight impairment. In addition to ebooks, Axis 360 offers digital audio books for student borrowing.

Baker & Taylor announced that its board of directors has named longtime executive George Coe as the company's new Chief Executive Officer and President. Mr. Coe brings 34 years of extensive experience leading and transitioning companies to becoming leaders within their industries. Prior to Baker & Taylor, he served as Vice President and General Manager of Brodart Books, Library Automation and K-12 software management divisions. Mr. Coe will replace Arnie Wight, who retired January 15 after a distinguished 34-year career with the company. Mr. Wight will assume the role of Non-Executive Chairman of the Board and will also work as a consultant for Baker & Taylor to support the leadership transition and the execution of strategic plans.
Baker & Taylor's Axis 360 Selects for eRead Illinois eBook Access Program

Baker & Taylor has been selected as a platform partner with the Illinois State Library and Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS), to provide ebook circulation services for Illinois libraries as part of the new eRead Illinois project. The project will provide Illinois library users with shared access to a robust ebook collection and the capability for participating libraries to craft local collections to meet the needs of their individual communities. Baker & Taylor is working closely with the eRead Illinois project team to build the service which will support adult, student and children readers throughout the state of Illinois. Libraries participating in the eRead Illinois program will combine their resources and access to ebooks through Baker & Taylor's Axis 360 digital media circulation platform, which is compatible with PCs and mobile Apple iOS and Android devices including smartphones and tablets. The Axis 360 platform also works with Blio, the multi-function ereader born from the partnership of the National Federation of the Blind and visionary Ray Kurzweil, to provide an ADA-accessible ebook solution for Illinois library patrons.
