Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Key Developments

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Announces Plans for $1 Billion Construction Program at Reagan National

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority plans a $1 billion construction program for Reagan National Airport that will include a new commuter concourse replacing the Terminal B/C Gate 35x (known until recently as Gate 35a), where passengers are bussed from the terminal to commuter planes. Currently, passengers traveling on small commuter planes wait at departure level Gate 35 for their boarding to be called, then take escalators to the lower level for busses, and board planes outside. No timeline was given for the project, though it will include construction of enclosed facilities for the 14 outdoor boarding positions. The construction program will also include a new parking garage, and a study for long-term improvements to National Airport's original Terminal A, used mostly by low-cost carriers. In order to accommodate the new enclosed concourse for commuter planes, the Airports Authority's corporate offices, on the North end of the airport, will be relocated elsewhere. MWAA also announced a new Use and Lease Agreement that will, for the first time, allow revenue sharing between Reagan National and Dulles International Airport. As much as $300 million in revenue could be shifted from Reagan National to offset operating costs at Dulles International Airport over 10 years.

Stark will replace Pat Nowakowski who resigned in April after five years at the helm of the $5.6 billion rail project.
