Company Overview of St. John's University

St. John's University President the Rev. Donald J. Harrington announced his retirement on May 3, 2013 two months after New York Magazine ran articles accusing him of taking gifts and vacations from a powerful school fund-raiser who killed herself during her fraud trial. Harrington, 67, has been at the helm of the Queens university for more than two decades since his arrival in 1989. His retirement will become effective July 31, 2013.

Michael Hemesath's official appointment as president of St. John's University begins on July 1, 2012, but he won't be on the campus until July 23, 2012. The delay is in part due to a previous commitment with Carleton College, but also because he will attend a new president seminar at Harvard University after July 4, 2012 before heading to St. John's. St. John's announced Hemesath's appointment April 10. He is a St. John's alumnus and the first lay president the university has had in its 155-year history. Rev. Robert Koopmann's presidency ends on July 1, 2012. Koopmann has served as president since July 1, 2009, and intends to retire from the position in June and return to the faculty.
