SES ASTRA S.A. announced that it has signed a long term DTH agreement with MagtiCom on ASTRA's orbital position 31.5E. Under the contract this will be the first domestic DTH platform in Georgia and in the Caucasus region. The platform will be in DVBS2 MPEG/4 and will allow MagtiCom to offer a comprehensive and a future proof competitive pay TV for the Georgian market including both SD and HDTV channels, also being able to extend its portfolio to offer triple play solution further down the road. 31.5°E is ASTRA’s latest orbital position that has a number of vivid advantages - excellent growth opportunities bringing ASTRA’s renowned service quality to new markets; a powerful DTH footprint that means small dish sizes; wide beam which allows extended connectivity; constant monitoring and customer support. On this orbital position ASTRA provides the following services: digital TV (standard & HDTV); radio; interactive TV; cable distribution; data services; DTT and other terrestrial feeds. All this makes orbital position 31.5E ideal platform to meet the rising demand for HDTV services in Central and Eastern Europe. The EU Diplomatic Community in Georgia has expressed great interest in the project.
SES ASTRA S.A. announced that it has signed an agreement for satellite capacity with UK commercial broadcaster ITV. This long-term agreement provides for the renewal of ITV's existing capacity and for additional capacity to support future development with the broadcaster's channel offer. According to SES ASTRA the broadcaster currently uses six transponders at ASTRA's prime 28.2 degrees East orbital position, serving the UK and Ireland. Under the new contract it will progressively activate three further transponders.
SES ASTRA announced that the ProsiebenSat.1 Group has signed a long-term capacity contract for one transponder with SES ASTRA. The new transponder will be used to broadcast the channels SAT.1 Osterreich HD, ProSieben Austria HD, kabel eins austria HD and PULS 4 HD. The new high definition offer for Austria will be marketed by AustriaSat - as part of the HDaustria package for all satellite households with an ORF smartcard. ASTRA Platform Services will handle the uplink to the ASTRA satellite system, HD encoding and signal encryption.
