University Of North Texas Appoints Dr. Thomas J. McCoy as Vice President for Research and Economic Development

Dr. Thomas J. McCoy, vice president for research, creativity and technology transfer at Montana State University, has been named vice president for research and economic development at the University of North Texas. He will join UNT July 8, 2013. As UNT's chief research officer, McCoy will set the university's strategies for growing as a research university into a Tier One institution. UNT already is the most comprehensive research institution in the North Texas region and is committed to becoming a public research university on par with the best in the nation. At UNT, McCoy will work to promote UNT's mission in research, original scholarship and artistic creativity as well as provide executive leadership for all components of the Office of Research and Economic Development, including proposal development services, sponsored programs, research integrity/compliance, technology transfer, and economic development. McCoy previously served as dean of the College of Agriculture and director of the Agriculture Experiment Station at Montana State, department head and professor in the Department of Plant, Soil and Environmental Sciences, associate professor in plant sciences at the University of Arizona and research geneticist at the United States Department of Agriculture alfalfa production research unit in Reno, Nevada.
V. Lane Rawlins Plans to Retire as President of University Of North Texas on or Before Dec. 31, 2013

University Of North Texas President V. Lane Rawlins announced on March 6, 2013 he plans to retire on or before Dec. 31, 2013. Rawlins joined the Denton campus in May 2010 as an interim appointment, but was later named the permanent president. Rawlins plans to remain involved with UNT through an active president emeritus appointment that will allow him to work on special projects. The University of North Texas System will name a 15-member search advisory committee within the next two weeks. The system is also setting up a committee search committee to replace Dr. Scott Ransom, the former president of the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth.
Michael Monticino to Lead University Of North Texas's Fundraising Efforts as Interim Vice President

Michael Monticino will lead the University Of North Texas's fundraising efforts as interim vice president for advancement and director of development of the UNT Foundation beginning August 8. Monticino, who joined UNT in 1990, has led the College of Arts and Sciences - UNT's college - for the past two years.
