MRIGlobal, Inc. Wins $63 Million Contract for National Toxicology Program

MRIGlobal, Inc. has been awarded a new $63 million, 10-year contract from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to provide analytical chemistry services for the National Toxicology Program. The initial eight-month award is for $2.4 million and is a continuation of services MRIGlobal has provided since 1972 to the National Toxicology Program. If all option years and tasks are exercised, the contract award is $63 million over 10 years. Under the contract, MRIGlobal will provide chemical procurement, handling, and analytical services in toxicology studies as assigned by the National Toxicology Program. The program examines chemicals that are found in consumer products like ingredients in foods, personal care products, prescription drugs, nutritional supplements, household cleaners, and lawn care products. In the program, MRIGlobal researchers examine chemicals for characteristics that could cause cancer, genetic defects, or immune system responses. MRIGlobal has provided continuous support through nine contracts, seven directly with the National Toxicology Program and the Environmental Toxicology Program. Before the establishment of the National Toxicology Program in 1978, MRIGlobal provided these same services through contracts with the National Cancer Institute. Since 1972, MRIGlobal has issued nearly 6,500 technical reports on more than 2,000 study chemicals for the program.

Booz Allen Hamilton was awarded a share of a $900 million federal contract by the U.S. Air Force Installation Contracting Agency, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., for Homeland Defense and Security Technical Area Tasks. Battelle Memorial Institute; Jacobs Technology Inc.; MacAulay-Brown Inc.; MRI Global; National Security Information Associates; Strategic Analysis Inc.; Leidos Inc.; Scitor Corp.; TASC Inc.; URS Federal Services Inc.; and Wyle Laboratories Inc.

University of Maryland School of Medicine and MRIGlobal, Inc. Announce Collaboration Agreement

MRIGlobal, Inc. and University of Maryland School of Medicine announced an intention to collaborate in the development of clinical specimen repositories, laboratory services for clinical trials, and research opportunities. The work will be performed under the collaboration agreement by MRIGlobal Dx, a division of MRIGlobal. The non-exclusive memo of understanding has an initial two-year term, with annual renewals ongoing. Other terms of the agreement were not released. With the agreement, the University of Maryland School of Medicine and MRIGlobal Dx plan to explore opportunities for procurement of clinical samples and patient specimen collection and banking. Researchers in molecular and translational medicine use specimen repositories to develop new ways to diagnose, prevent, or treat diseases. Specimens may include fluids, tissues, tumors, cells and genetic material.
