University of Victoria Sessional Workers Ratify Two-Year Deal

Canadian Union of Public Employees' sessional instructors at the University Of Victoria have ratified a new two-year collective agreement. The employer is expected to ratify the deal by the end of the month. The contract runs from May 1, 2012 - April 30, 2014 and includes wage increases of 2% in the first year and 1.38% in the second. The agreement includes improvements to contact language including language on long-term disability, increased stipends for directed studies, distance education and course challenges and maternity/parental leave improvements.
University of Victoria Reaches Deal with One Labour Union

University Of Victoria has reached a tentative two-year agreement with one group of workers, but talks with another remain unresolved. UVic announced that negotiations with the Professional Employees Association had led to a conditional deal calling for a 2% wage hike retroactive to July 1, along with a further 2% hike that kicks in on July 1, 2013. The association includes about 850 administrative and academic professionals at UVic, including counsellors, systems analysts, scientific technicians and engineers. Meanwhile, talks continue with support staff represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees. The equivalent of approximately 1,500 full-time CUPE members - childcare workers, painters, food-service staff and others - have been without a contract since 2010. CUPE pickets have been set up a number of times since the UVic fall session began in September.
Professional Employees Association and University Of Victoria Reach Tentative Agreement

Negotiators with the Professional Employees Association (PEA) and the University Of Victoria have reached a tentative agreement on a new two-year contract. The deal includes an across-the-board wage increase for PEA members of 2% retroactive to July 1, 2012 and a further 2% on July 1, 2013. The agreement is now subject to ratification by both parties over the coming weeks. The tentative agreement has been reached under the provincial government's cooperative gains mandate. The previous contract was also for two years and expired June 30, 2012 and was concluded under the provincial net-zero mandate.
