The American Diabetes Association (Association) announced that Ann Meredith, a recognized non-profit leader, has been named Executive Director of the Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey area, effective January 21. Meredith will be responsible for strategic, fundraising and program initiatives, along with development of staff, volunteers, and the Community Leadership Board chaired by Joseph McHale, a senior partner with the Philadelphia-based law firm of Stradley Ronan Stevens and Young, LLP. Meredith brings an extensive executive background in nonprofit leadership, business development, strategic planning and corporate relations to the Association. In her most recent role, she served as president of her own non-profit consulting firm, providing management, strategic planning, communications, marketing and fundraising consulting to various organizations.
American Diabetes Association to Appoint Fe Vorderlandwehr as Director of the Wichita Chapter

Fe Vorderlandwehr is leaving McConnell Air Force Base to become the director of the Wichita chapter of the American Diabetes Association. She has spent 13 years with McConnell, the past six as the base's community center director. Her last day with McConnell is Nov. 29. Vorderlandwehr is a member of the 40 Under 40 class of 2008.
American Diabetes Association and Alere Wellbeing to Offer Weight Loss Program to Employers

Alere Wellbeing and the American Diabetes Association announced a new collaboration focused on weight loss to help address the staggering rise of prediabetes and diabetes among American adults. As part of the collaboration, Alere Wellbeing and the American Diabetes Association will offer American Diabetes Association Weight Talk, a weight loss program designed for the employer market that provides general weight loss coaching, in addition to a specialized diabetes weight loss track called American Diabetes Association Weight Talk D. The diabetes track includes 11 coaching calls delivered exclusively by registered dietitians and web-based content tailored for people with type 2 diabetes. The Weight Talk program draws from evidence established from the renowned National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) and the Look AHEAD trials for weight loss, making it one of the most comprehensive weight loss programs available to employers. In addition, Alere Wellbeing and the American Diabetes Association will collaborate on research related to diabetes weight loss and the ongoing development of effective clinical protocols and best practices in the fight against obesity, prediabetes, and diabetes.
