Yu Jiang, a native of China who has worked at the National Gallery of Art, has been named the first director of Xavier University's Confucius Institute. Before his Xavier appointment, Jiang was an assistant professor of museum studies at Southern University at New Orleans. He also has been an assistant professor of art history at Florida Atlantic University and a postdoctoral fellow at the National Gallery of Art and the Smithsonian Institution.
