Hy-Vee, Inc. Collaborates with University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy and Ferris State University to Offer Rapid-Diagnostic Strep/Flu Test

Hy-Vee, Inc., in collaboration with the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy and Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich., is one of the first pharmacies in the United States to offer customers a rapid-diagnostic influenza or Group A Streptococcus test. Hy-Vee stores in Omaha and Papillion are among 60 sites throughout three states that will have pharmacists trained to administer these tests, the results of which are available shortly after the test is given. In addition to the testing, pharmacists also will be able to fill prescriptions to treat identified illnesses, if needed, under strict protocol set by prescribing physicians. The tests are part of a research study conducted by UNMC and Ferris State and are available to Hy-Vee customers who quality for the program. Participants must be at least 19 years of age and exhibit symptoms consistent with influenza or strep. Other restrictions apply, such as the hours the tests are available at some pharmacies. Customers are urged to contact their Hy-Vee pharmacy if they are interested in either test.
Ferris State University Names Patrick Briggs as Associate Vice President for Finance

Patrick Briggs was named Ferris State University's new associate vice president for Finance. Briggs, who begins work at Ferris on July 15, has served as assistant superintendent and interim superintendent for Cadillac Area Public Schools since 2001. Prior to working in the Cadillac school district, Briggs served for two years as the director of Finance and Business Operations at the Saginaw Intermediate School District.
Ferris State University Announces Appointment of Board of Trustees

Erin Brown, of East Lansing, and Lori Gwizdala, of Bay City, have been appointed to Ferris State University's Board of Trustees to serve eight-year terms. Brown is a strategic adviser and project manager for Rockford-based Holton Research LLC, a position she has held since 2008. Brown is also adjunct marketing faculty at Michigan State University. Previously, she served as adjunct marketing faculty at Grand Valley State University and as government relations supervisor, industry and community affairs manager, and corporate citizenship manager for Amway Corp. Gwizdala is executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of Midland-based Chemical Financial Corp., where she has worked since 1985. Before serving in her current roles, Gwizdala held the position of controller. She is a certified public accountant and a member of MidMichigan Health's audit and finance committees. She replaces George J. Menoutes, of Flint, who serves as board secretary. Appointees will serve eight-year terms that expire Dec. 31, 2020. Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
