Mohawk Fine Papers, Inc. announced plans to close its Beckett Mill in Hamilton, a move that will eliminate 137 jobs by the end of the year. In a statement, the company said the move is part of an effort to better match its manufacturing needs with the changing market for paper products. The Beckett Mill closer won't affect the company's envelope, converting and warehouse/distribution facilities in Saybrook, Ohio, along with warehouses in California, Washington, New York, and the Netherlands. The company's announcement is the latest blow to the city of Hamilton, which last week got the news that Smart Papers is finalizing the wind down of its paper-making operations in the city.
