West Penn Allegheny Health System, Inc. reported earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year ended June 30, 2013. The company lost $41.2 million in its fiscal fourth quarter, more than double the net loss for which it budgeted. Through the first nine months of the year, the company had a net loss of $89.7 million. The fourth quarter results put it on track to record a net loss of $130.9 million for the full year. In the prior year, which ended June 30, 2012, the company had a net loss of $84.7 million.

SEC Completes Probe on West Penn Allegheny Health System

West Penn Allegheny Health System announced that the Securities and Exchange Commission has notified them that it has completed its investigation of adjustments to a 2008 financial statement and the SEC staff has no intentions, at this time, to recommend any enforcement action. The investigation was believed to have come from an investor conference call in 2009. During the call, WPAHS officials said in response to a bondholder's question that they expected the health system's pension funding obligations will at least double in fiscal year 2011 beyond the $11 million required in 2010. Instead, the pension obligation in 2011 turned out to be $75.7 million. Shareholders OK American Eagle compensation plan. American Eagle Outfitters shareholders voted to approve the South Side company's executive compensation plan at an annual meeting held in New York this week. The results of the nonbinding say-on-pay vote were released in a regulatory filing Friday. Last year, shareholders rejected the company's pay package, which included a multimillion-dollar exit package given to American Eagle's former CEO. Erie Health system now part of Highmark Inc.
