Family Health International announced that Timothy Mastro, MD, FACP, DTM&H,will join Family Health International (FHI) on August 1st as Senior Director of Research. He joins FHI from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). During his tenure at the CDC, Dr. Mastro oversaw HIV prevention research activities, including a landmark study on mother-to-child HIV transmission, trials of microbicides for women, and the first international HIV vaccine efficacy trial. He has also served as chief of the CDC HIV Vaccine Section and directed CDC's participation in the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

Family Health International Gets Five-year Contract to Lead a Major Family-Planning Research Project in Africa, Asia and Latin America

Family Health International has won a $50 million, five-year contract to lead a major family-planning research project in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The project, which is designed by the U.S. Agency for International Development, aims to generate information about family-planning programs that can be adopted by health systems in developing countries. The research will focus on the need for new or improved family-planning methods, increased access to contraceptive devices and educating health workers.
