Anne Arundel Community College announced the appointment of Kathleen E. Bolton of Severna Park was appointed as Executive Director of Institutional Advancement and the AACC Foundation Inc. In this role she is responsible for providing innovative leadership and direction for the Offices of Institutional Advancement and Sponsored Programs which seek private and public sector funding to enhance the college's educational endeavors. Gretchen Tomkies of Edgewater has been named director of development, the lead major gift officer for the foundation, which raises private sector funds from individuals, corporations and foundations to support students and college programs. Debi Mercado of Edgewater has been named director of sponsored programs, leading the college's efforts to secure grants that support students and college programs. Prior to her appointment, Bolton had been serving in the executive director role on an interim basis, while also leading the Office of Sponsored Programs. Tomkies also had been working in her new role as the interim director while also serving as an assistant director of business partnerships. Mercado, who has coordinated grants with Bolton in the Office of Sponsored Programs for several years, will provide leadership in the pursuit and management of grants. The appointments became effective July 1.

Anne Arundel Community College named Dawn Lindsay as the sixth president in the college's 50-year history. Since 2009, Lindsay has been president of California's Glendale Community College, where she oversaw a budget of $157 million. At Anne Arundel, Lindsay will replace Martha A. Stewart, who is retiring after 18 years as president. Lindsay will assume her new role on August 1, 2012.
