CertainTeed Corporation Key Developments

Saint-Gobain and CertainTeed Corporation's New North American Headquarters to Be Completed in the Fall of 2015

Saint-Gobain, will be featured in Saint-Gobain's new North American corporate headquarters located at 20 Moores Road in Malvern, Pa. Saint-Gobain, is transforming an existing space into a LEED-certified facility for Saint-Gobain and its CertainTeed Corporation. The $80 million redevelopment project, expected to be completed in the fall of 2015, will take full advantage of Saint-Gobain's extensive portfolio of green building materials and technologies, including SageGlass, to create an energizing, sustainable work environment that will attract and retain top talent for years to come. SageGlass dynamic glass will replace the energy inefficient curtain wall of the current structure to create both a visually stunning and energy efficient multi-story curtain wall on the building's western and southern facades, where sunlight is most intensive. SageGlass is electronically tintable glass that maximizes daylight and outdoor views in buildings while controlling glare and heat gain. While reducing energy consumption and sun glare were key objectives in the re-design, preserving an outdoor connection to the scenic 65-acre campus which includes woods, fields, a pond and a stream for the benefit of people inside was another reason for using SageGlass, according to architect Neil Liebman, principal of Bernardon Haber Holloway, who designed the exterior. LEED certification is being sought for the 320,000 square foot redevelopment project. The goal is to create a next-generation workplace that maximizes comfort and air quality through the use of a wide range of building material innovations from Saint-Gobain's product portfolio. In addition to SageGlass, the headquarters will include materials from CertainTeed Corporation, Saint-Gobain ADFORS, Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics and others from Saint-Gobain's family of companies. Incorporating these products will create a "living laboratory" where the company's research team can measure the impact its products will have on a real workspace environment.

CertainTeed to Unveil SMARTBATT™ with MoistureSense™ Technology

International Builders' Show attendees will find sustainable, inventive new products, live interactive demonstrations, celebrity appearances, and a revamped Building Solutions® rewards program at the CertainTeed Corporation exhibit (#C2127), Feb. 4-6 in Las Vegas. A cornerstone of the exhibit, CertainTeed will unveil SMARTBATT™ with MoistureSense™ Technology, a fiberglass batt insulation that contributes to healthier homes and buildings by intelligently managing moisture. The insulation adapts based on moisture levels in the wall cavity, blocking moisture from entering when humidity is low and allowing the wall to breathe when it senses high humidity that needs to be released, helping reduce the potential for mold and mildew growth. SMARTBATT also offers highly efficient thermal performance and enhances acoustical control by helping to block disturbing outside noise. Additionally, a revamped version of ColorView™ – an advanced set of exterior home design tools — will make its debut at the show. Featuring a user-friendly interface, ColorView offers users preset color combinations along with an array of stock images to create exterior home designs. For a more customized approach, users can upload an image of a home and use do-it-yourself masking to more accurately create renderings that can be used as a selling tool with homeowner customers.

ASSA ABLOY and CertainTeed Corporation Team Up to Tackle Classroom Acoustics

ASSA ABLOY and CertainTeed Corporation are teaming up as part of an industry-first collaboration to address acoustical challenges in classroom settings a critical factor in ensuring strong student performance. Representing global leadership in door opening solutions, gypsum board, ceilings and insulation solutions, the collaboration leverages world-class building science and technical expertise to create recommendations for interior spaces that meet or exceed the most stringent acoustical requirements. According to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), proper acoustics are critical for students' ability to understand familiar words and learn new information. The new alliance between ASSA ABLOY and CertainTeed has uncovered easily accessible solutions to address these acoustical challenges and reduce the sound reverberation that further complicates noise issues. ASSA ABLOY and CertainTeed are designing and testing interior solutions that provide exceptional acoustical control between classrooms, music rooms, administrative offices, bathrooms and hallways. Through preliminary research, the collaboration has demonstrated significant acoustical improvements by creating a holistic solution that integrates CertainTeed's SilentFX(R) noise-reducing gypsum board, Sustainable Insulation(R) fiberglass batt insulation and Symphony(R) m mineral fiber ceiling panels with door and frame systems, including components, from ASSA ABLOY Group brands CECO Door, CURRIES, PEMKO or SMP Specialty Doors. Each of the design configurations align with targeted Sound Transmission Class (STC) ratings as well as stringent requirements of the American National Standards Institute, LEED(R) for Schools, Collaborative for High Performance Schools, GREENGUARD Gold, and 2012 International Green Construction Code.
