Sacred Heart University Opens New Graduate Center in Stamford

Sacred Heart University has opened a new Graduate Center in downtown Stamford, Conn., expanding its presence in a city with one of the large concentrations of corporations and financial services outside of New York. The Graduate Center will provide easier access for working students and professionals living in Fairfield County, as well as commuting students from New York City, Westchester and western and southern Connecticut. It is located in Landmark Square, within walking distance of the city's Transportation Center and businesses. The Graduate Center has 10,000 square feet of classroom, conference and administrative space. SHU previously offered continuing education, limited undergraduate classes and corporate training in Stamford.

Sacred Heart University Announces Board Changes

Sacred Heart University will add three new board members. Gus Serra, Merle Berke-Schlessel and Kelly Leather '11. These three additions will bring valued expertise and experience to help the Center in its continued growth. Serra is the former head of Community Relations at General Electric and has a long-standing relationship with the not-for-profit sector in the greater Bridgeport area. He was named the 2011-2012 Pat Hart Award recipient for his extraordinary work in community affairs, including strong support of the art education programs provided by Neighborhood Studios of Fairfield County. Berke-Schlessel is an experienced executive manager, general counsel and community leader with an extensive and diverse background in strategic planning, policy-making, fund development and all aspects of program creation, implementation and compliance. Leather most recently transitioned to Inspirica in Stamford where she will take on the role of director of events, communications and volunteers. She previously worked as a development manager for Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County. She also helped to incorporate technology into schools there. Deacon Dan Ianniello, co-founder of the Center for Not-For-Profit Organizations, will be leaving the board after 11 years of service.

Sacred Heart University Announces Directorate Changes

Bobby Valentine has been named as executive director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Sacred Heart University. Valentine replaces outgoing director, C. Donald Cook, who plans to retire at the end of June 2013. Most recently, Bobby Valentine was the manager of the Boston Red Sox during the 2012 season. He has also been a broadcaster for ESPN and currently serves as senior baseball analyst for NBC Sports. In addition, he is the owner of Bobby Valentine's Sports Gallery Cafe in Stamford.
