Nurses Receive Settlement Checks from Wage Dispute from Albany Medical Center, Ellis Medicine, Incorporated, St. Peter's Hospital, Northeast Health, Inc. and Seton Health
Apr 3 13
About 3,200 nurses in the Albany, NY area have begun to receive settlement checks from a class-action lawsuit filed seven years ago. The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Albany, was one of several wage suppression suits filed nationwide in 2006. It alleged that Albany Medical Center, Ellis Medicine, St. Peter's Hospital, Northeast Health and Seton Health shared confidential registered nurse wage information and conspired to hold down wages during a four-year period beginning in June 2002. All five health systems settled, without admitting wrongdoing. Northeast Health paid $1.3 million, Seton Health paid $745,000, St. Peter's paid $2.7 million, Albany Med paid $4.5 million and Ellis paid $4.8 million. These funds were pooled in an escrow account. In late February, the court granted approval for a distribution of funds. Checks averaging $1,730 were mailed out starting March 29th, 2013.
