EDC appointed Christine Filosa to the position of vice president and general counsel. Formerly EDC senior attorney, Filosa directs EDC ’s Office of Legal Affairs, which represents EDC in all legal matters and handles a range of issues, including intellectual property, employment law, immigration, real estate, risk management, new business, and corporate and international issues. Before joining EDC in 2002, Filosa worked as an associate for the law firm of Peabody & Arnold LLP in Boston and also clerked for Chief Justice Joseph P. Warner at the Massachusetts Appeals Court.

EDC announced that Doryn Davis Chervin, DrPH, will join EDC as vice president and senior scientist in its Health and Human Development division. With three decades of public health experience, Chervin will help lead business development initiatives to strengthen and expand EDC’s health portfolio. The division focuses on health promotion, disease prevention, and early intervention and care with a focus on the social and economic challenges that create disparities in health. Chervin recently served as senior health scientist and technical advisor for the Division of Adolescent and School Health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She also served as executive vice president for SciMetrika, LLC.

Education Development Center, Inc. announced that Anne Bryant, former executive director of the National School Boards Association and Robert Peirce, a Los Angeles businessman with a long career in the British Diplomatic Service, have joined EDC’s board of trustees. A nationally recognized leader in education, Bryant led the NSBA for 16 years, advocating for equity and excellence in public education through school board leadership and representing state school board associations and their 13,000 member districts across the United States. Robert Peirce served as British Consul General in Los Angeles from 2005 until 2009, when he retired from the British Diplomatic Service after three decades of distinguished posts in China, Hong Kong, Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Both trustees were confirmed at EDC’s board meeting on January 29, 2013.
