3M Unitek Corporation Introduces Revolutionary Orthodontic Bonding Technology
Jul 10 13
3M Unitek Corporation has launched its game-changing APC. Flash-Free Adhesive Coated Appliance System. The new advanced technology, initially available for use with Clarity Advanced Ceramic Brackets, eliminates the flash removal step in bonding 1, reducing variability and saving time for orthodontists and patients. The APC Flash-Free adhesive allows orthodontists to move directly from bracket placement to bracket cure without
the need for adhesive clean-up. This streamlines the process and takes eleven steps of traditional bonding down to only five. Bonding time is reduced by up to 40% per bracket 2, and the potential for error caused by accidental bracket movement during flash clean-up is removed. The new adhesive demonstrates excellent tack and workability before light-cure and delivers extremely reliable bond strength, with a bond failure rate of less than 2% 3, compared with an average of 7% for traditional bonding. APC Flash-Free adhesive bonding components draw on 3M's expertise in several technology platforms, including vapour processing, non-woven materials and nano-technology, as well as the company's recognized expertise in adhesives.
3M Unitek and Rocky Mountain Orthodontics Settle Patent Infringement Litigation
May 7 13
3M Unitek announced it has successfully resolved U.S. and French patent lawsuits related to sales by RMO, Inc. (doing business as Rocky Mountain Orthodontics) of customized lingual orthodontic brackets and appliances manufactured by Lingualjet Orthodontics. The patent litigation was settled in favor of 3M with a U.S. consent judgment and a judicially recognized settlement in France, each acknowledging the validity of the patents-in-suit for 3M(TM) Unitek(TM) Incognito(TM) Lingual Braces and infringement thereof by the Lingualjet product. For the life of the 3M patents, RMO will cease and permanently refrain from making (or having made), using, importing, offering for sale or selling anywhere the Lingualjet product and any other products or systems that would infringe any of the patents-in-suit.
3M Unitek Corporation Launches 3M True Definition Scanner for Orthodontic Practice
May 2 13
3M Unitek Corporation announced the availability of the 3M(TM) True Definition Scanner for use in orthodontic practice--a complete digital impression system that uses 3D-in-motion video technology to deliver a true replica of the oral anatomy with precision and accuracy. The digital process brings improved productivity, better oral care and ultimately a better patient experience. More accurate--and more consistently accurate--than leading systems on the market (1), the powerful 3D-in-motion video technology delivers full arch scanning in phenomenal detail. Orthodontists can display digital impressions immediately for analysis and treatment planning, with secure cloud-based storage of unlimited patient scans and access to open STL (three-dimensional) files that can be readily imported into a variety of digital workflows for increased office productivity and efficiency. Open architecture gives orthodontists the flexibility to work with any lab and their choice of appliances. When used to create customized Incognito(TM) System Appliances, the system provides seamless transfer of information to the Unitek(TM) Treatment Management Portal (TMP), enabling full case management and direct interaction with 3M Unitek. The 3M True Definition Scanner platform features: Lightweight, ergonomic, intraoral scanning wand that is ideally balanced to feel comfortable in the hand; HP(R) Workstation with a high-performance central processing unit (CPU); Touch-screen display; Streamlined rolling cart for easy transport; 3M(TM) Connection Center -- secure, cloud-based, digital hub that accommodates storage of impression files and connection to laboratory services; Unitek Treatment Management Portal (TMP) connection for Incognito System Appliances.
