ARM Inc. Key Developments
LogMeIn, Inc. announced its collaboration with ARM Inc. to simplify and accelerate commercial development on the Internet of Things. As part of the agreement, the companies are cooperating on LogMeIn's Xively Jumpstart Kit, a rapid prototyping-to-production bundle that significantly reduces the cost, complexity and learning curve required to bring IoT-based connected products and solutions to market. The IoT enables a world where devices, data and places are interconnected with applications and users over the internet, transforming how people discover, interact and experience their world. It is made possible through a rapidly growing class of small, inexpensive yet powerful processors, ubiquitous connectivity, mobile computing and interaction platforms. LogMeIn's Xively Jumpstart Kit combines ARM mbed(TM), a platform for rapidly building connected devices using ARM-based microcontrollers, with Xively's cloud platform, making the IoT a practical reality for anyone wanting to build Internet-connected devices and associated cloud-based applications, from small entrepreneurs to established Original Equipment Manufacturers. With ARM mbed for product development, combined with Xively Cloud Services, developers and businesses can focus on their own innovations rather than on infrastructure and platforms. This results in accelerated time-to-market, as developers can rapidly progress from prototyping to volume deployment.
Scaleo chip SA announced that the company has entered into an agreement with Arm, Inc. to combine the ARM(R) Cortex(TM)-R5 MPCore(TM) processor with Scaleo chip technologies into OLEA, Scaleo chip's new family of microcontrollers optimized for powertrain systems. The agreement addresses one of the key challenges of automotive manufacturers: how to deliver cleaner, more energy-efficient vehicles. The powertrain, which includes the engine and transmission, represents the most significant area for potential improvements in cleanliness and energy-efficiency using advanced electronics. OLEA microcontrollers will embed ARM technology and deliver leading powertrain control solutions for advanced internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEV), hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) and electric vehicles (EV). OLEA provides unique features and patented breakthrough technologies including energy saving flexible hardwired powertrain control, multi-core system integrity and deterministic Ethernet based communication. With its range of safety-critical features, the ARM Cortex-R5 processor will complement Scaleo chip functional safety dedicated functions to address the ISO 26262 standard. Scaleo chip and ARM plan to jointly promote and demonstrate solutions throughout 2012.
