James Lyons, aged 67, a three-time university president who is a member of Dillard University's board of trustees, has been named the university's interim president effective July 1, 2011. Lyons was appointed by the board to succeed Marvalene Hughes, who will step down as president on June 30, ending a six-year term. Lyons, 67, a native of New Haven, Conn., has been president of California State University, Dominguez Hills; Jackson State University in Jackson, Miss.; and Bowie State University in Bowie, Md. Lyons will serve as Dillard's interim leader until a permanent replacement for Hughes is named.
