The organization provides biotechnology information, advocacy, and business development services to member companies. It offers services that include research and development of healthcare, agricultural, industrial, and environmental biotechnology products such as pharmaceuticals, drug discovery and development, genomics, and proteomics. BIO Announces Patrick Plues as the New Senior Director of State Government Relations

The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) announced that Patrick Plues has been hired to serve as Senior Director of State Government Relations. Plues will lead BIO's engagement in and support of state-level health legislative and regulatory issues while promoting the responsible development of the bioscience industry and better understanding of policy issues critical to members. Plues brings with him over 20 years of experience in state and federal government affairs, the majority of that time advocating on behalf of the biopharmaceutical industry. Plues previously led Cephalon's federal government affairs efforts. Prior to that position, Plues directed state and federal advocacy initiatives for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.

The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) announced that veteran Congressional and campaign communications strategist Jeff Sadosky has joined BIO as Managing Director of Communications and deputy to Senior Vice President of Communications, Ken Lisaius. Sadosky most recently served as U.S. Senator Rob Portman's Communications Director, responsible for Portman's communications strategy throughout his career in the Senate.
