Action Manufacturing Company, Inc. Key Developments

Action Manufacturing Co. to Pay Fine over Hazardous Waste Violations

Action Manufacturing Co. has agreed to pay a $1.2 million fine for hazardous-waste violations and to remove its top executive to settle criminal charges brought by the U.S. attorney in Philadelphia. The company, with a history of hazardous-waste violations going back more than 20 years, manufactures fuses, detonators, and related components for missiles and other weapons. Action relocated its Philadelphia operation to Bristol Township in 2012 and operates a 200-acre facility in Chester County, near Atglen. U.S. District Judge Nitza I. Quinones Alejandro is scheduled to consider the penalties, including five years of probation, at a hearing in Philadelphia on August 27. The U.S. attorney in Philadelphia charged Action in May with storing explosive waste on its West Fallowfield Township site for years beyond the 270 days it was allowed under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. Prosecutors also charged that Action transported explosive waste from Chester County to a now-closed facility in North Philadelphia, next to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, without proper documentation. In 2003 and again last year, Action was subject to consent orders and agreements with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection because of improper hazardous waste storage. The state fined the company $75,000 in 2003 and $450,000 last year.

Action Manufacturing Co. Wins $83.2 Million Federal Contract

Action Manufacturing Co. was awarded an $83.2 million federal contract by the U.S. Army Contracting Command, Picatinny, Arsenal, N.J., for approximately 1,100,000 M739A1 point detonating/delay artillery fuses and 100,000 safe and arm module assemblies for the 155mm M825A1 white phosphorous smoke projectile.
