Lee Count Selects LightRiver to Light Next-Generation Communications Core
Nov 15 12
LightRiver Technologies, Inc. announced that it has been awarded the contract to upgrade the county's critical communications network. This project maximizes the capabilities of the county's existing fiber facilities and newly acquired right-of-way shared fiber infrastructures, while realizing significant savings over the current leased line access. Lee County IT Department acquired rights of access to 70+ additional miles of fiber, beyond its own downtown core, through a partnership with a local service provider. The county is seeking to leverage the new access to migrate critical county communication traffic, including emergency response services, from leased access lines to a fiber infrastructure either owned by the county, or granted by the partnership. LightRiver was chosen to design and engineer Lee County's next-generation Ethernet services network leveraging ROADM (Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer) technology over a new DWDM (Dense Wave Division Multiplexing) communications backbone. Training on the technology will enable county employees to become self-sufficient in managing the new network.
