Pioneer Investments Announces Executive Changes

UniCredit announced that Sandro Pierri will step down as CEO at its asset management arm Pioneer Investments at the end of January 2015. Giordano Lombardo, currently deputy CEO and group chief investment officer, will ensure continuity at Pioneer Investments.

Santander Confirms Plans For Asset Management And Pioneer Merger

Banco Santander, S.A. (CATS:SAN) confirmed that the company is planning a potential merger of Santander’s Asset Management with Pioneer Global Asset Management S.p.A. Federico Ghizzoni, Chief Executive Officer of UniCredit S.p.A. (BIT:UCG) told reporters on September 23, 2014 that the proposal was to combine Santander Asset Management with UniCredit's Pioneer unit, with each bank owning about a third of the new company. "At this time no agreement has been reached as to the potential structure or the terms of that possible transaction. Santander will inform the market if and when it reaches an agreement in the future to implement such a transaction," UniCredit said in a statement to the Spanish market regulator.

Santander Close To Acquire Stake In Pioneer

Banco Santander, S.A. (CATS:SAN) is the frontrunner to buy stake up to 50% in Pioneer Global Asset Management S.p.A., sources close to the matter told Reuters. UniCredit S.p.A.(BIT:UCG) is scheduled to hold a board meeting but it is not clear if an announcement will be made, the sources said. "They were the last one to enter the auction and now they're very hot on this deal. Their plan is to merge their existing asset management operations with Pioneer's," one of the sources said. UniCredit had considered the sale of Pioneer in 2011 but dropped the idea after failing to conclude a tie up with Eurizon.
