Blackstone And General Electric Reportedly Mulls Dell Financial Services

The Blackstone Group LP and General Electric Company (GE)'s lending arm have discussed jointly pursuing Dell Financial Services, L.L.C. from Dell Inc., reported Wall Street Journal citing people familiar with the matter. "Talks are fluid, as are the possible pairings, The people said. The scenario is among a few that Blackstone is working on in which the private-equity giant could team up with a partner to buy all or part of the computer maker. Peeling off just the financing business could be complicated, as Dell considers it an important source of support for its sales." People familiar with the matter added, "Blackstone also has talked with Southeastern Asset Management, Inc. about a deal in which Southeastern, Dell's largest independent shareholder, would roll its stake into a takeover bid. One option could be for Blackstone to work on bids with both GE and Southeastern that would in effect be an offer for the entire company in two parts."
