MPTF (Motion Picture and Television Fund) and the union representing certain of its employees, SEIU-UHW, on March 15 jointly announced a 60-day cooling-off period during which time the two organizations will continue to negotiate in good faith toward a collective bargaining agreement.
Negotiations between the Motion Picture and Television Fund and the union representing 500 MPTF caregivers and other employees were at impasse on March 13, 2013, and with no additional talks planned a three-day strike is expected to begin March 18, 2013. The company has arranged for temporary replacement workers and it will be ready to ensure a seamless continuity of services both on and off its campus in a secure environment. The labor dispute concerns staffing levels, wage rates, proposed new health-insurance premiums and a proposed freeze of employees' existing pension plan.
The Motion Picture and Television Fund announced the continuation of its partnership with the FIAT brand following the success of this year's "Night Before" event by inviting celebrities to drive and experience the all-new, all-electric 2013 Fiat 500e as part of the new FIAT "Into the Green" Program, culminating at an auction of the celebrity-driven Fiat 500e vehicles on October 12, 2013 at the Hugh Jackman & Friends Live event to benefit MPTF, with a goal of raising $500,000 for the organization. FIAT was one of the presenting sponsors at the 11th annual MPTF "Night Before" event, held each year the evening before the Academy Awards(R). At this year's benefit, FIAT raffled off a new 2013 Fiat 500e vehicle to winner, actor Andy Garcia as part of their initiative to benefit MPTF. The proceeds of "Into the Green" will specifically be used to support the Country House Fund -- a fund dedicated to MPTF residents in need. A portion of the funds raised will also be used towards the new environmental initiative of converting the MPTF Wasserman Campus into a drought-resistant facility, ensuring the Campus will remain a beautiful environmentally-friendly residence for industry veterans to live.
