Reliance Infrastructure to Sign Long-Term Agreements with Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission on directed Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra) to sign long-term agreements with its sister concern, the Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd. (VIPL), which will offer around 600 MW of competitively priced power. As a result, electricity is expected to become cheaper for the 2.8 million consumers RInfra has in the suburban parts of the city. Besides the 500 MW that RInfra gets from its Dahanu power plant, the company buys 600 MW from outside, which is comparatively costlier as it is bought through short- and medium term agreements. With the VIPL power coming its way, RInfra will be able to offer around 1,100 MW of its own electricity to its suburban consumers. Tata Power Company and BEST, which also supply power in the city, get electricity generated from the city's own power plants.
