GMZ Energy Announces Demonstration of 1,000 W TEG Designed for Diesel Engine Exhaust Heat Recapture

GMZ Energy announced the successful demonstration of a 1,000 W TEG designed for diesel engine exhaust heat recapture. This announcement follows the company's June 2014 demonstration of its 200 W diesel TEG. The company integrated five 200 W TEGs into a single 1,000 W diesel engine solution that directly converts exhaust waste heat into electrical energy to increase fuel efficiency and lower costs. The company's TEG demonstrated over 1,000 watts of continuous output power with no degradation in performance over the test period. In order to simulate vehicle performance, the unit was tested by connecting directly to the exhaust of a 15-liter V8 diesel engine inside an engine test cell. At approximately 80 liters (2.8 ft), the company's TEG is less than one-third of the TARDEC program's specified size requirement. With this demonstration, GMZ has successfully reached the next milestone in the $1.5 million vehicle efficiency program sponsored by the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center ('TARDEC') and administered by the U.S. Department of Energy ('DOE'). With battlefield fuel costs ranging from $40 to $800 per gallon, the U.S. military is especially interested in thermoelectric technologies, which are physically robust, have long service lives, and require no maintenance due to their solid-state design. The company's patented half-Heusler material is uniquely well suited for military applications. The company's TEG also enables silent generation, muffles engine noise, and reduces thermal structure. The TARDEC TEG incorporates the company's TG8-1.0 TE modules, which are the first commercially available modules capable of delivering power densities greater than one Watt/cm while operating at temperatures of up to 600 degC. The company currently sells sample quantities of these modules to large OEMs worldwide.

GMZ Energy, Inc. Announces Self-Powered Gas Boiler

GMZ Energy, Inc. announced the successful demonstration of a self-powered gas boiler. When disconnected from all external power sources, the boiler continued to operate without interruption because it incorporated GMZ's TG16-1.0, a high-power thermoelectric module that converts a portion of the boiler's internal heat directly into electricity. With this module, GMZ's partner, a boiler manufacturer, can offer a new level of functionality and reliability to its customers. The TG16-1.0 fully powers all of the boiler's components, including the controller, fan and circulator pump. This means the boiler can operate indefinitely without grid power, making it a potentially life-saving product that can keep homes warm during natural disasters and extended power outages. For many, the self-powered boiler will be a low-cost alternative to a whole house generator. Its convenience and security can protect customers who live in remote areas with unreliable grid service.

GMZ Energy Announces New High Temperature Thermoelectric Material

GMZ Energy announced its new Hafnium-free p-type half-Heusler material, which has substantially lower raw material cost than conventional half-Heusler materials. The material also features dramatically enhanced performance and mechanical strength due to GMZ's patented nanostructuring process. GMZ Energy's Hafnium-free p-type half-Heusler material will significantly reduce costs for its OEM partners. GMZ's mission is to deliver thermoelectric solutions that maintain the thermal and mechanical stability its partners need while reducing costs; something that is especially critical in automotive applications. With this new, low-cost material used in all of GMZ's TEG modules, more diesel and gasoline fueled vehicles and applications can leverage GMZ's thermoelectric generators to increase fuel efficiency.
