Vivint Standardizes on a Cloudera Enterprise Data Hub for Securing Automation of the Internet of Things
Jul 15 14
Cloudera announced that its Platform for Big Data, Cloudera Enterprise, is now sitting squarely at the center of home automation and the Internet of Things (IoT) for Vivint. For the first time, Vivint is able to apply a new lens to data generated from intelligent devices and systems embedded with sensors in and around homes. Vivint, together with Cloudera, can now offer more value and identify actionable insights to enrich their customers' lives. Vivint has acquired more than 800,000 customers using a variety of third-party smart-enabled devices - roughly 20-30 sensors per home. Many of those devices come in the form of thermostats, smart appliances, video cameras, window and door sensors, and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Without a central internal repository to gather and analyze the data generated from each sensor, Vivint was previously limited in its ability to innovate and to add higher intelligence to its security offerings.

Concur Chooses Cloudera Enterprise Data Hub
Jul 2 14
Cloudera announced that Concur has chosen Cloudera to more effectively manage its data and improve the company's engagement with customers and partners such as car services, airlines, restaurants and hotels that touch its global customer base of over 20,000 clients and 25 million users. Processing more than $50 billion in Travel and Expense (T&E) spend each year, Concur provides a connected, effortless and transparent experience for corporate travelers and financial managers. Concur's cloud and mobile applications allow business travelers to book, manage and track their itineraries, automatically submit expenses, while ensuring that all aspects of travel align with corporate policy. At the same time, the solution gives financial departments a much better picture of actual spend and the ability to manage it across both travel and typical business invoices. After an extensive evaluation for a Big Data solution, Concur found that Cloudera had the most mature and only enterprise-grade Hadoop-based platform. In addition to Apache Spark, a motivator for Concur's decision to run on Cloudera's distribution of Hadoop, Concur's wide range of users access the company's multiple CDH 5 clusters through tools including Cloudera Impala, Hue, and R.
