The NanoSteel Company, Inc. Key Developments
The NanoSteel Company, Inc. Announces the Expansion of its Engineered Powders Business into Additive Manufacturing
Sep 24 14
The NanoSteel Company, Inc. announced the expansion of the company's engineered powders business into additive manufacturing. By leveraging its uniform metal matrix microstructures in the laser-sintering process, the company was able to build a crack-free, fully dense bulk sample. NanoSteel's initial focus in additive manufacturing supports the market need for on-demand, on-site wear parts while addressing the current challenges in 3D printing of high-hardness parts. NanoSteel's breakthrough overcomes one of the major hurdles to achieving a high-hardness metallic part through additive manufacturing -the tendency to develop cracks during part builds. This produced a fully dense (99.9%) crack-free part with hardness values over 1,000 HV, wear resistance comparable to conventionally manufactured M2 tool steels, and a uniform microstructure.
The NanoSteel Company Grants License of Metallic Coatings Portfolio to Lincoln Electric
Jul 9 14
The NanoSteel Company and Lincoln Electric announced that NanoSteel has granted Lincoln Electric an exclusive worldwide license to the company's proprietary steel coatings technology for weld overlay and thermal spray applications. This agreement expands Lincoln Electric's range of wear resistant products, which complement the company's core arc welding, cutting and automation solutions.
The NanoSteel Company Introduces New Portfolio of Ferrous Powders for Wear Parts
Jun 25 14
The NanoSteel Company announced the introduction of a portfolio of ferrous powders designed to extend steel's capabilities in near net shape wear parts for highly abrasive environments. These new alloys feature hardnesses in excess of 1400 HV, wear resistances well below 10mm³ volume loss (ASTM G-65) and spherical morphology that results in excellent packing factors and flowability important for producing high density parts under tight dimensional control. This family of new powders enables the production of extreme hardness wear parts through a wide variety of consolidation processes including additive manufacturing without the need for subsequent heat treatment. In a recent trial of a die insert application, the NanoSteel material out-performed the tool steel AISI A11 by 6x after withstanding the significant abrasive forces imparted during the consolidation of a ceramic powder all while maintaining a mirror surface finish. The significantly longer life cycle of the die insert part increases operational efficiencies demonstrating that the company's material is ideal for applications which require higher wear resistance than current tool steels.
