Telekom Malaysia Bhd Forms Consortium to Build Undersea Cable

Telekom Malaysia Bhd forms a consortium with 14 international telecommunications operators for the installation of undersea fibre optic cables linking Singapore to France. The collaboration is with 14 partners including Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Ltd, China Mobile International Ltd, China Global Telecommunications Limited, China Network Communications Group Co. Ltd, Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Co, Orange, Myanmar Post and Telecom. The other partners are PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International, Saudi Telecom Company, Singapore Telecommunications Ltd, Sri Lanka Telecom Plc, Telecom Italy Sparkle, TOT Public Co. Ltd, and Yemen International Telecommunications Co. The joint venture is part of TM's initiative in support of the government's National Broadband Plan and the Economic Transformation Programme by expanding TM in collaboration with telecommunication companies in other countries.
TOT Delays 3G Network Expansion Deal to 2014

TOT's second phase of 3G network expansion will be put off again until 2014, as it could not decide on its partnership models by last week. TOT needs to amend its partnership contract with Samart I-Mobile (SIM), to obtain a win-win solution. TOT has 5,320 3G base stations. It plans an additional 13,000 to 15,000 stations under a second-phase 3G expansion through a partnership deal with a private telecom operator.
Samart I-Mobile Set to Sign Long-Term MVNO Deal with TOT

Samart I-Mobile (SIM) is set to sign a new MVNO agreement with state-owned telecommunications provider TOT. Under the new 12-year MVNO contract for 3G services, SIM will be able to serve up to 2.8 million users initially and will share 46% of its revenues with TOT. SIM expects to have 600,000 users for the service by year-end, up from around 284,000 subscribers currently. TOT signed five MVNO deals a few years ago, including an agreement with SIM, and is now in the process of negotiating longer-term contracts. TOT currently has 5,000 3G base stations using the 2.1 GHz spectrum, which will expand to 5,320 shortly.
