CANARIE and GrowLab announced a partnership to provide entrepreneurs with a suite of powerful, cloud-based resources to support product development and commercialization. Through this partnership, GrowLab will provide its clients with access to CANARIE's Digital Accelerator for Innovation and Research (DAIR) through the Powered by DAIR program. DAIR provides free cloud-based compute, network and storage resources for small businesses to develop, test, prototype and demonstrate next-generation products. DAIR's made-in-Canada cloud provides users with the cost certainty, scalability and long-term usage horizon that can kick-start commercialization of research and the formation of new businesses. The combined technology resources and expertise of CANARIE and innovative business incubation and mentoring services of accelerators like GrowLab offer a significant boost to startups so that they can receive the support and services they need, when they need it.

Canarie, Cybera and Tec Edmonton Support Entrepreneurs with Transformative Tech Tools to Accelerate Innovation and Commercialization

CANARIE, Cybera and TEC Edmonton announced a partnership to provide Edmonton area businesses with a suite of powerful, cloud based resources to support product development and commercialization. Through this partnership, TEC Edmonton will provide Edmonton businesses access to CANARIE's Digital Accelerator for Innovation and Research (DAIR) program. DAIR provides low cost cloud based computing resources for entrepreneurs to develop, test, prototype and demonstrate next generation products. DAIR's made in Canada cloud provides entrepreneurs with the time horizon, scalability and cost certainty unmatched by other cloud offerings. The TEC Edmonton partnership is an expansion of the Powered by DAIR partner model, in which organizations supporting businesses secure a block of DAIR resources and offer the service as an extension to their existing services. Administrative and marketing support is also offered, to assist in cloud incubation support to clients. For business owners, Powered by DAIR is a one stop shop of services that reduces the time and effort required to navigate various programs.

CANARIE Appoints Jim Ghadbane as President and CEO

CANARIE announced that Jim Ghadbane has been appointed President and CEO of the organization. Jim will assume his duties effective November 11. The appointment of Jim Ghadbane comes at a critical point in CANARIE's evolution. In the short term, Jim will be responsible for achieving the company's objectives as stated in its current agreement with the Government of Canada, including the ongoing evolution of the advanced research and education network, technology innovation and the development of research software tools, and stimulating innovation and commercialization in Canada's ICT sector. Jim will continue to develop and deepen relationships with CANARIE stakeholders, including universities, colleges, government research labs, the granting councils, Canada Foundation for Innovation, private sector organizations, researchers, and Industry Canada; partners, including the provincial and territorial advanced networks and Compute Canada; and peer organizations, such as Internet2, to ensure CANARIE evolves to anticipate the changing needs of Canada's research, education and innovation communities. Further, he will lead the development of the strategic plan for CANARIE's next mandate, spanning 2015 - 2020, and will engage CANARIE's public, private and non-profit stakeholders to support and advocate for CANARIE's mandate leading to renewed funding from the Government of Canada. Jim joined CANARIE as Chief Technology Officer in May 2010, and since that time has led a number of strategic initiatives, including: launch of CANARIE's cloud computing service for entrepreneurs, DAIR; launch of CANARIE's Research Middleware program and the creation of CANARIE's software development team; evolution of CANARIE's backbone network to become 100G (100 Gigabits per second) capable; growth and development of CANARIE's CAF service, an identity and access management solution for research and education communities; creation of the CIO Advisory and Research Advisory Committees; and management of the Network Alliance Infrastructure Program, which provides support for CANARIE's provincial and territorial network partners.
