Retail Industry Leaders Association Key Developments

Target to Issue REDcards Enabled with MasterCard Chip and Pin Security Technology in 2015

The Retail Industry Leaders Association announced that Target will begin issuing branded REDcards enabled with MasterCard Chip and PIN security technology in 2015. Chip and PIN cards are being used throughout the world, and yet migration to Chip cards in the United States is set to begin in October 2015 without the crucial functionality of PIN. RILA urges card issuers and card networks to include universal PIN security when migrating chip-based smart card technology in order to best protect the company shared customers. According to the Federal Reserve, simply using a PIN on debit card transactions makes the transaction 700% more secure than when a PIN is not used. As demonstrated today, merchants are willing to make shared investments for enhanced security and the company want to work together with the company partnering card issuers and card networks to implement this technology in a way that is most secure for the company joint customers' data.

Retail Industry Leaders Association Announces a Partnership with the National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance

The Retail Industry Leaders Association announced a partnership with the National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance to enhance cybersecurity information sharing and expand retailers' proactive and vigilant approach to cyber threats to protect consumers against criminals. Partnering with the NCFTA is one of several approaches RILA is taking to enhance collaboration across the entire payments system. Last week, RILA announced it is joining forces with the Financial Services Roundtable to lead a partnership between the merchant and financial services industries.
