Cal Poly Announces Management Appointments

Gerald Holmes and Kelly Ivors have been named to head research and development efforts at the new Strawberry Sustainability Research and Education Center at Cal Poly. In his new role, Holmes will provide overall strategic leadership to the center, working collaboratively with both farmers and academia. He has deep industry and academic experience in plant pathology and most recently worked at Valent U.S.A. Corp. developing fungicides. Ivors will focus her research for the Strawberry Sustainability Research and Education Center primarily on soil-borne plant pathogens in commercial strawberry production. She came to Cal Poly from North Carolina State University (NCSU), where she was an associate professor and extension plant pathologist stationed at the Mountain Horticultural Crops Research & Extension Center near Asheville, N.C.

California Polytechnic State University Announces Executive Changes

Marcy Maloney, who has served as interim executive director for California Polytechnic State University's Associated Students Inc. for the past six months, has been named the permanent executive director, effective June 1, 2013. Maloney succeeds Rick Johnson, who retired in January. Maloney, a Cal Poly alumna, has served in a number of capacities since joining ASI in 1990. She was the associate director and then director of ASI Recreational Sports and director of ASI Programs. In her most recent position as interim executive director, Maloney has been involved in financial, legal and administrative management of all ASI-managed facilities, including the University Union, the Cal Poly Recreation Center, Sports Complex and Orfalea Family and ASI Children's Center.
