Global Village Telecom (Holding) S.A. Key Developments
DIRECTV has decided to end its plan to purchase Global Village Telecom (Holding) S.A. (GVT) from Vivendi Société Anonyme. On March 14, 2013, a spokesperson from DirecTV confirmed that DIRECTV chose to "not to move forward in its pursuit of GVT and has withdrawn from the process." Also, Vivendi has decided to stop the auction of GVT after DirecTV and another group failed to make satisfactory offers. A Vivendi spokesman said , "Vivendi is suspending the sale of GVT as preliminary offers do not reflect the real value of that company. We are absolutely convinced that we have a great asset and are happy to continue developing it within the Vivendi family." Vivendi was expecting bids for a $9.2 billion-$10.4 billion for GVT and DirecTV was understood to have offered $7.9 billion in a mixture of cash and stock and the only other known bidder, a consortium of private equity firms led by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. reportedly offered $6.5 billion.
Vivendi has confirmed that it may decide to divest Global Village Telecom (Holding) S.A. (GVT) if it obtains a very good price, Vivendi’s Chief Financial Officer, Philippe Capron said. However, Capron said that if it feels that the price is not right, it will not sell GVT, and may decide to sell another asset. "We are not in any hurry to sell any asset, least of all GVT, given the growth potential. It is a superb asset. There is still a lot of growth ahead. We've not officially confirmed that there is a process, but since some of the bidders have publicly announced that they were making bids, it would be a bit foolhardy for me to deny it," Capron said.
Les Echos reported without citing sources that Vivendi is delaying the sale of Global Village Telecom (Holding) S.A. (GVT) as Vivendi failed to receive offers close to its asking price of €7 billion. Reuters said that a Vivendi spokesman declined to comment but added that the company is not in a hurry to sell the business.
