Georgia State University has named Charlie Cobb as its new director of athletics. Cobb will join the Panthers from Appalachian State University, where he's been for the past 9 years. He replaces Cheryl Levick, who stepped down in May to become special assistant to Georgia State President Mark Becker.

Georgia State University tapped its Deputy General Counsel Bharath Parthasarathy as interim director of athletics. A national search is now underway to replace Cheryl Levick, who resigned in May. Parthasarathy has extensive experience with Athletics operations and programs, worked closely with the department on policies and legal issues and developed strong working relationships within the organization. Becker added he expects to name a new athletic director by the end of the summer. Parthasarathy is a frequent speaker on intercollegiate athletics, higher education and the modern role of in house counsel. He began his legal career as an associate at Alston & Bird LLP.
Georgia State University, Carter and Columbia Residential Proposes To Purchase Turner Field

Georgia State University has proposed partnering with private developers Carter & Associates, L.L.C. and Columbia Residential Llc to purchase Turner Field. Separately, at least four well-financed development teams have made overtures to Mayor Kasim Reed to buy the property. It is unclear what the timeline might be for the authority to sell the property. But Becker said if Georgia State and the development team is successful, they would like to break ground by January 2017.
