State University of New York at New Paltz Appoints David P. Ferguson as Interim Director of Development, Effective September 4, 2012

State University of New York at New Paltz announced the appointment of David P. Ferguson as the College's interim director of development. He will start on September 4, 2012. Ferguson comes to New Paltz from the University of Findlay. At Findlay, Ferguson served as special assistant to the president from 2011-2012 and as vice president for development from 2005-2011. At New Paltz, Ferguson will supervise the development office staff and manage and oversee functions of the office. He will also serve as executive director of the SUNY New Paltz Foundation Board. He will work to expand and strengthen the College's donor base and support the president in planning and implementing a fundraising strategy including donor communication, cultivation, and solicitation. He will work with the Foundation Board to begin implementing recommendations of a recent feasibility study and support planning of the early stages of a major fundraising campaign. Ferguson will also oversee the search and selection process of a director of alumni relations and will consult on the national search and selection process for a permanent leader of the college's development efforts and executive director of the Foundation Board. His appointment will continue until a permanent replacement is hired, at which time he will return to other endeavors. Ferguson previously served as the vice president of university relations and later the vice president of development at St. Bonaventure University in St. Bonaventure, NY. Prior to that position, he was the associate vice president for university relations at the Ohio State University. He previously was managing editor at the Columbus Dispatch and worked as a reporter, editorial writer, and layout editor for the New Britain (Ct.) Herald.
State University of New York at New Paltz Appoints Tanhena Pacheco Dunn as First Executive Director, Compliance and Campus Climate

State University of New York at New Paltz announced that Tanhena Pacheco Dunn, Esq. has been appointed its first executive director for compliance and campus climate. She will assume her duties on June 18 and will report directly to President Donald P. Christian. In this new role, Pacheco Dunn will be responsible for monitoring the college's compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures as they apply to: Title IX provisions that deal with sexual assault, sexual harassment, and hostile workplace issues; affirmative action; and New York State ethics legislation. This includes resolving complaints, making policy recommendations, designing and facilitating training for students and employees (with support from Student Affairs and Human Resources respectively), and coordinating interdepartmental efforts to comply with these employment legislations. Additional duties include developing and administering the college's affirmative action plan; determining outcomes of employee accommodation requests; participation in the college's various employee search processes and serving as the point of contact on relevant compliance questions from state, federal or other regulatory agencies. For nearly 11 years, Pacheco Dunn has served as the assistant director of human resources at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., where she was responsible for employee relations issues including compliance, performance management and staffing needs for over 1,100 employees. She also worked with the EEOA office to support continued training in regards to harassment, non-discrimination and Title IX. In addition, Pacheco Dunn managed the Worker's Compensation, Family Medical Leave, and Disability processes; had administrative oversight of three collective bargaining agreements and assisted with drafting policies and responses to legal matters. Prior to her position at Vassar College, Pacheco Dunn was an alumni recruiter for the Albany Law School in Albany, N.Y.
State University of New York at New Paltz Appoints Philip Mauceri as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

State University of New York at New Paltz announced the appointment of Philip Mauceri as the College's new provost and vice president for academic affairs. He will start on August 1, 2012. Dr. Mauceri is currently dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and a professor of political science at the University of Northern Iowa. Prior to becoming dean in 2009, he led the Department of Political Science from 2005 to 2009 and was interim department head from 2003 to 2005. In addition to serving as provost at New Paltz, Mauceri will hold tenure and professor rank in the Political Science Department. His specialty is comparative politics and Latin American politics. As dean, Mauceri formed a new academic unit, the School of Applied Human Sciences, which combined programs formerly in the Department of Design, Textile, Gerontology and Family Services with the Counseling Program, to strengthen their identity and provide added synergies. Previously, he founded the Center for International Peace and Security Studies and served as founding director from 2003 to 2005.
