Securian Financial Group promoted three actuaries. Brandon Bellin, FSA, CFA, was promoted from senior associate actuary to director and actuary, Retirement Plans. He is responsible for several areas within the Retirement Plans division, which provides defined contribution and defined benefit retirement plans to US employers. Beth Voermans, ASA, whose first position at Securian in 1982 was as an actuarial trainee, was promoted to director, Financial Operations, Group Life Insurance. She oversees compensation, reinsurance administration and reporting for many of the division's financial functions. Voermans, of Roseville, MN, is second vice chair of the Girl Scouts of MN and WI River Valleys board of directors and a board member and chair of the Grant Committee of the Roseville Area Schools Foundation. Kristin Ferguson, FSA, CFA, of North Branch, MN, was promoted to senior associate actuary in the risk management area of Corporate Actuarial department. She will lead development, analysis and communications for several enterprise risk management functions.
Securian Financial Group Names Christopher M. Hilger as New CEO, Effective January 1, 2015

Securian Financial Group announced that President Christopher M. Hilger will also serve as chief executive officer, effective January 1, 2015. Chairman and CEO Robert L. Senkler, who will retire from active management after serving as CEO for 20 years, will remain as chairman of the board of directors. Hilger, 49, will be the thirteenth CEO in Securian's 134-year history. He was appointed president in 2012. A 27-year veteran of the insurance industry, Hilger also serves as CEO of Allied Solutions, LLC, a Securian subsidiary headquartered in Indianapolis, IN that distributes insurance products and services to financial institutions.

The Securian Financial Group board of directors approved five officer-level promotions. Former senior corporate counsel Mark J. Geldernick is now second vice president, Law. He joined Securian in 2007 after eight years as corporate counsel for Best Buy. He has multiple responsibilities, including providing legal advice for two business units. Susan M. Munson-Regala was promoted from director to second vice president and actuary for the group life insurance division. She began her actuarial career at Securian as an intern in the summer of 1987 and joined the company in 1990 as an actuarial analyst. Kristi J. Nelson has spent her entire career at Securian. She joined the company in 1987 as an actuarial student and is now second vice president and actuary for the credit protection business. Nelson is chairwoman of the Consumer Credit Protection Association. Siddarth S. Gandhi was promoted to vice president of strategic business development. He joined Securian in 2010 as second vice president to lead the company's enterprise strategic business development including enterprise strategy development and mergers and acquisitions. Previously, he was in a strategy and business development leadership position at Ameriprise Financial. William M. Gould will serve as vice president, individual actuarial and finance. Gould joined the company's accounting department in 1996. He now oversees the individual life insurance division's finance and product development function and the individual annuity financial area.
