Cypark Resources Berhad Partners TÜV SÜD to Test Dump Site-Turned Renewable Energy Park
Dec 18 13
Cypark Resources Berhad has engaged TÜV SÜD as part of its plan to transform former Pajam dumpsite into Malaysia’s first and biggest renewable energy park. With TÜV SÜD’s testing support, the site which previously had minimal economic, real estate and social value, is now certified as a performance-ready solar park with the ability to power over 17,000 households annually. The MYR 150 million park includes a 13MW lightweight, non-permanent and non-invasive solar park. In 21 years, the solar park will generate MYR 500 million worth of electricity, which is a three-time turnover. This amount of electricity is equivalent to electricity generated by 9,300 tonnes of coal, while potentially reducing 14,335 tonnes of carbon dioxide and 684 tonnes of methane gas emissions a year.
TÜV SÜD Wins Further Certification Contract for Gemini Wind Farm
Dec 12 13
Typhoon Offshore B.V. on behalf of Equity investors Gemini has commissioned TÜV SÜD to carry out the certification of two offshore substation platforms for Gemini, the wind farm to be located in the North Sea off the coast of the Netherlands. The certification of the 300-MW high-voltage substations located on platforms is required for the licensing process by the Dutch authorities. TÜV SÜD has already won the contract for the certification of the support structures of the offshore wind turbines. Certification by TÜV SÜD covers review of the design documentation and the geotechnical report, but also testing of the support structure and the topside platform. TÜV SÜD also carries out certification of the 150 wind-turbine support structures for the Gemini wind farm. With this additional order, TÜV SÜD's participation covers the complete design process of the offshore wind farm. The Gemini offshore wind project is located in the North Sea, approximately 55 km north of the Dutch island of Schiermonnikoog. The wind farm, with a total installed capacity of 600 MW, is planned to supply 785,000 households per year with clean, renewable electricity. The sub-station platforms convert the alternating current produced by the wind turbines into high-voltage alternating current that can be distributed onshore with reduced losses. TÜV SÜD's experts at Offshore Wind Services have long-standing experience with the certification of wind turbines and their associated components.
