KeyBank N.A. to Close Total of 10 Branches in Erie and Niagara Counties
Mar 26 14
KeyBank N.A. announced that plans to shrink its Buffalo-area retail branch network this summer, reflecting the ongoing consolidation of the region's banking industry following HSBC Bank USA N.A.'s retreat from consumer banking in Upstate New York. Between July 18 and Aug. 1, KeyBank will close a total of 10 branches in Erie and Niagara counties. Seven of the 10 branches are former HSBC offices that KeyBank acquired in mid-2012. Accounts will be transferred to nearby KeyBank branches, all of which are less than two miles away from the soon-to-be-shuttered branches. Most of the receiving branches will undergo some interior remodeling to make room for more employees, and one branch will get a new drive-up teller and ATM lane. The list of branch locations slated for closure and the offices to which accounts will be transferred: 5151 Broadway, Depew to close July 18, with accounts being transferred to 5207 Broadway, Lancaster; 11 Main St., Hamburg to close July 18, with accounts being transferred to 25 Main St., Hamburg; 1107 Lovejoy, Buffalo to close July 18, with accounts being transferred to 1017 Broadway, Buffalo; 4191 N. Buffalo Road to close July 18, with accounts being transferred to 4239 N. Buffalo Road, Orchard Park; 3107 Bailey Ave., Buffalo to close July 25, with accounts being transferred to 3134 Bailey Ave., Buffalo; 390 Main St., Buffalo (in the Main Place Mall) to close July 25, with accounts being transferred to 50 Fountain Plaza, Buffalo; 266 Kenmore Ave., Buffalo to close July 25, with accounts being transferred to 3586 Main St., Amherst; 6525 Transit Road, Amherst to close July 25, with accounts being transferred to 9640 Transit Road, Amherst; 4401 Transit Road, Williamsville to close Aug. 1, with accounts being transferred to 4455 Transit Road, Williamsville; 5688 S. Transit Road, Lockport to close Aug. 1, with accounts being transferred to 5740 Transit Road, Lockport. The bank also based its decision to close on the condition of each branch. KeyBank renovated several of its local branches prior to the acquisition, so those branches in many cases are in better shape than the former HSBC branches. Between 60 and 70 KeyBank employees work at the branches that will close. All of them will be offered positions at other branches, but some may choose to leave the bank on their own. Post-consolidation, KeyBank will operate 62 branches in the eight counties of Western New York, including 43 in Erie County and 11 in Niagara County.
