Most recently, he served as the director of the Veterans Health Administration National Center on Homelessness Among Veterans, where he oversaw various initiatives that promoted research-driven solutions for Veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Hampton VA Medical Center Announces Changes in Directors
Jan 3 13
Hampton VA Medical Center has a new director. Michael H. Dunfee will oversee health care services to more than 40,000 veterans in eastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. He will start work January 7, 2013. Dunfee's most recent assignment was at the Washington, D.C., VA Medical Center. He served as acting medical director there on several occasions and frequently briefed Congress and other government leaders about VA health care. From his new office on the 85-acre campus overlooking Chesapeake Bay, Dunfee will oversee a facility where the workload likely will increase as the military downsizes and more active-duty troops transition to veteran status. Of course, that's true for the VA as a whole. But the heavy veteran population in Hampton Roads presents special challenges, including a relatively large population of homeless vets. The previous director, DeAnne Seekins, left Hampton in May 2012 to direct the VA medical center in Durham, N.C. She spent three years in Hampton. Benita K. Stoddard served as acting director in Hampton for the balance of 2012.
