The promotion expands Nicholson's scope of responsibilities in policy leadership, federal regulatory advocacy and staff management. Nicholson will continue to report to Carol A. Kelly, senior vice president of government affairs and public policy. He leads a seven-person expert staff team responsible for legislative and regulatory healthcare policy analysis at the federal and state levels.

National Association of Chain Drug Stores, Inc. announced at the AGM held on April 22, 2013 has elected the new officers, new Executive Committee members and new Board of Directors members for the coming year. Robert J. Narveson, president and chief executive officer of Thrifty White Pharmacy, was elected as the new NACDS chairman of the Board of Directors, succeeding Gregory D. Wasson, president and chief executive officer of Walgreen Co. In addition, John Standley, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Rite Aid Corporation was elected vice chairman, and Juan M. Ortiz, chief executive officer, Navarro Discount Pharmacies, was elected treasurer. In addition to the election of the new officers for one-year terms, the NACDS Board elected Dr. John Agwunobi, senior vice president and president of health and wellness of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., and Juan Ortiz as new Executive Committee members. Four new Board of Directors members were also elected: Randy Edeker, chairman and chief executive officer of Hy-Vee, Inc. Dijuana Lewis, senior vice president of health care solutions for the Health and Wellness Division of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.; Ken Martindale, chief operating officer of Rite Aid Corporation; and Martin Otto, chief merchant and chief financial officer of H-E-B. These four new Board members will join the other 22 members of the NACDS Board of Directors to develop NACDS' policies and priorities.

National Association of Chain Drug Stores, Inc. announced that David M. Fitzsimmons, CPA, CGMA, has been promoted to the role of senior vice president of finance and administration. Fitzsimmons currently serves as vice president of finance and accounting. He succeeds Jim Huber, who is retiring as executive vice president and chief financial officer effective December 21, 2012, after 25 years of service to NACDS. In his new role, Fitzsimmons will report to NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE, and is responsible for all financial and fiduciary operations and policies of the Association, including affiliated entities, trusts and investments. He will also be responsible for the preparation of the annual operating budget in concert with the NACDS President, NACDS Finance Committee and NACDS Board of Directors.
