International Crisis Group Announces Executive Changes

International Crisis Group announced that Jean-Marie Guhenno will be the organisation's next President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Guhenno served as the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations from 2000-2008, and in 2012, as Deputy Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States on Syria. He is currently a professor and Director of the Center for International Conflict Resolution at Columbia University. Mr. Guhenno will assume his new post on September 01, 2014. Crisis Groups long-time Board member, Ghassan Salam, will take up the role of Acting President during the interregnum. Effective 1 July, Crisis Group also reconstituted and added six new members to its Board of Trustees Hushang Ansary, Wolfgang Ischinger, Sankie Mthembi-Mahanyele, Olympia Snowe, Jonas Gahr Stre and Margot Wallstrm and Mr. Salam succeeded Ambassador Thomas R. Pickering as Board Co-Chair, alongside Mark Malloch-Brown.

International Crisis Group (The) Names Joost Hiltermann as Chief Operating Officer

Joost Hiltermann has been named as chief operating officer of International Crisis Group (The). As the number two executive for the independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization, Hiltermann is responsible for the oversight and management of its programs and operations around the world. He also leads the organization's strategic planning process. At University of California - Santa Cruz, Hiltermann worked with professors Paul Lubeck and Wally Goldfrank in sociology, and Terry Burke in history. For the past five years he was based in Amman, Jordan, as deputy director for Middle East and North Africa where he managed a team of analysts to conduct research and write policy-focused reports on factors that increase the risk of and drive armed conflict.
