Defiance Mining Corporation was acquired by Rio Narcea Gold Mines, Ltd. in September 2004. Previously, Defiance Mining Corporation was engaged in the exploration and development of mineral properties, and the extraction of precious metals. The company’s principal exploration property was Tasiast, which is located in the country of Mauritania in the north western region of Africa. It also owned and operated the Vueltas del Rio heap-leach gold mine located in the Santa Barbara state of Honduras.
